Notifications Quick Start (Set-up)

The Notifications system in EMS is designed to improve communication within the organization by facilitating recorded two-way conversations between supervisors, staff, schedulers, HR and management.

To start using Notifications follow the steps below (these steps assume that you have modify or higher access to the Enterprise Settings and Security areas of EMS and are familiar with the application).

For more detailed information on the set-up and usage of Notifications, refer to the Notifications sections of the user manuals in the EMS Help menu.

1.  Go to Enterprise Settings | Departments and assign a Department Head to each department (if there is more than one department head, create an Employee Group and set the department's Notification to Employee Group instead of Department Head):

2.  Go to Security | Security Groups and ensure that at least one HR Security Group has Modify (or higher) access to Notifications so that the Notification Types can be maintained.

3.  Go to Security | Employee Groups and review the groups of employees.  If any groups will be receiving notifications, update them and check the Notification Group.

4.  Go to Enterprise Settings | Notification Types and set Default Recipients for each Notification Type.  To view and update the Default Recipients, expand the Notification Type by clicking the plus sign to the left of the row.

Tip:  Setting the Recipient Type to Department and the Recipient to (Default) will automatically include the Department Head set in the Departments table.

5.  Go to Security | Page Access and give the operators appropriate access to the Notifications pages.  There are 3 Notifications pages, the most commonly used ones will be in Personal and in Scheduling.  The Notifications page in HR displays notifications sent to and received by each employee.

6.  Log off and then log in again to apply all security changes.

You're now ready to start using Notifications!

At a future date, you may want to further customize the Notifications by changing the Notification page names, Notification Type descriptions and default recipients, or the Department Notification settings.  Refer to the Notification Types section of the Enterprise Settings manual for more details.

For instructions on working with Notifications, refer to the Notifications sections of the HR, Staff Scheduling and Personal Information manuals available in the EMS Help menu.
